The 3. International Picture Book Festival Brandenburg “The gloomy and the cheerful” offers a new program for young illustrators to create a future lab during the festival in November.

You are a young illustrator? You already have first experiences in the creation of picture books? But you haven't yet published your own book? Please hand in your CV and up to 5 files showcasing your work until November 9th 2015 and take part in the 3. International Picture Book Festival Brandenburg.

The festival gathers contemporary artists publishing books for children and youngsters about challenging topics like war, the human body, and abandoned places. It presents different approaches how these issues can be dealt with in picture books. This year eight widely acknowledged illustrators from Czech Republic, Latvia, Poland, Russia, Ukraine, and Germany are presenting their works and techniques at six venues in Germany and Poland.

Young illustrators are invited to apply for the future lab sponsored by the Brandenburg Ministry of Sciences, Research and Cultural Affairs, complementing the festival's main program. The participants of the future lab will be working on a joint publication with the topic „The world in transition – Explain it to me“, that will be published and presented in the
framework of the festival.

The future lab takes place from November 23th to November 28th 2015 in Buckow and Frankfurt/Oder. Participants will be granted a compensation of 450 Euro and have free accommodation and meals. The future lab will be mentored by Nele Brönner and connects to the festival’s main program.
